Modern Katakuchi Spouted Matcha Bowl by Koji Takahashi

One-of-a-Kind Textures Forged in the Kiln

Crafted in Kyoto by the esteemed artisan Koji Takahashi, this ceramic Matcha bowl features a complex glaze born from the unpredictable reactions within the kiln. The fusion of raw clay and sophisticated glazes creates a rich, "wabi-sabi" texture that feels both ancient and remarkably modern.

The dark surface subtly shifts in the light, providing a dramatic backdrop that makes the vibrant "green" of Matcha tea look absolutely stunning, elevating your tea ritual into a special artistic experience.

Artisan Process of Kyoto Pottery

The "Master of the Wheel": Precision Meets Function

Among Kyoto’s young artisans, Takahashi is renowned as a "Master of the Potter's Wheel." This piece showcases his incredible precision with the addition of a sleek, functional spout. The sharp silhouette and grounded presence reflect a perfect balance of traditional skill and contemporary design.

Because the foundation of his work is built on such precise techniques, even his most minimalist designs possess a powerful presence that commands attention in any space.

Metallic Luster Manganese Glaze

Stylish Artistry for Modern Living

While designed for the traditional tea ceremony, this "Katakuchi" (spouted bowl) is perfect for modern, casual lifestyles. It functions beautifully as a Matcha whisking bowl for sharing tea, a sophisticated cafe au lait server, or a stylish pitcher for sauces and dressings in contemporary dining.

Embrace the "Ichigo-Ichie" (once-in-a-lifetime) philosophy with this unique pottery piece—a true intersection of Japan’s heritage and modern design.

Shop Owner’s Note

This piece is a marvel of functional beauty, featuring a graceful form with a built-in spout. The metallic black luster of the manganese glaze perfectly complements the sharp, bold shape of this spouted bowl.

While you can sip directly from it, I highly recommend using it to whisk Matcha and pour it into separate cups for friends. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy a casual, modern tea time with a handmade masterpiece from Kyoto.
