Matcha Bowl Depicting Seasonal Flowers and Plants
This matcha bowl is crafted by Kako-zan Kiln, a fourth-generation pottery studio located in Gojozaka, Kyoto. Inspired by the flowers and plants that adorn Japan's four seasons, the bowl expresses beautiful seasonal landscapes. The vibrant colors evoke a simple beauty of nature, making this bowl perfect for tea ceremonies or for adding a touch of seasonal color to your daily cup of tea.

Elegant Colors Painted with Traditional Japanese Pigments
At Kako-zan Kiln, each piece is hand-painted with care, using traditional Japanese pigments. A distinctive feature is the subtle unevenness and three-dimensional effect created by layering colors with delicate brushwork and carefully applying the pigments.
The soft hues, intricate details, and the expressive brushstrokes unique to hand-painting harmonize with the warm texture of the pottery and the ornate designs. This allows for a rich and varied aesthetic depending on the viewing angle and lighting.

Kako-zan Kiln's Ware, Inheriting the Style of Kenzan
The artistic style of Kako-zan Kiln carries on the aesthetic sensibility of Ogata Kenzan, a leading potter of the Edo period. Kenzan was a master artisan who created many free-spirited and elegant works, combining the rustic texture of pottery with painterly designs, often depicting familiar nature themes such as flowers and plants.
Kako-zan Kiln's ware utilizes the warm characteristics unique to earthenware, while expressively depicting nature's four seasons. Inheriting the aesthetic sensibilities of Kyo-yaki, which began with Kenzan, these matcha bowls are finished with a vibrant yet approachable design that can be enjoyed in modern life.

Shop Owner's Comment
This is a matcha bowl from Kako-zan Kiln, featuring beautiful peonies in the style of Ogata Kenzan.
The peony, often called the "King of Flowers," is expressively rendered with transparent traditional Japanese pigments. The thickly raised painting gives the flowers and leaves a rich texture, evoking the characteristic splendor of Kyo-yaki.
This is a dignified bowl that combines traditional Kenzan-style motifs with Kako-zan Kiln's unique vibrant colors.
