Matcha Bowl – Hokusai Fugaku Sanjurokkei ‘Rainstorm Beneath the Summit’ | Kyoto Pottery

A Masterpiece Reviving a Japanese Classic

Ichinyo Yamamoto, a Kyoto-based ceramic artist working in Uji, has devoted over half a century to the art of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware pottery.

This matcha bowl is a special piece inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic series “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.”

A fusion of traditional Japanese art and the refined craftsmanship of Kyoto pottery, it is a remarkable work that brings history to life in your hands.

The Depth and Dimension of Kōchi Glaze

The brilliance of this handmade ceramic bowl comes from its vivid, transparent colors—achieved using the traditional Kyoto glaze known as Kōchi.

The raised frames surrounding each motif are applied one by one by hand, creating a sense of depth reminiscent of carved relief work.

The result is a refined finish that highlights both the dynamic composition of Hokusai’s work and the elegance of Kyoto pottery traditions.

Presented in a Wooden Box

Absolutely exquisite! I know very little about Kyoto ceramics, and had initially eyed it for its aesthetics. Am beginning to learn the many difficult and complex elements it implemented. Honoured to own this piece by Ichinyo. Thank you Kotopotter.

I had been searching for a tea bowl featuring Fujin and Raijin (the gods of wind and thunder) to match my thunder-themed tea caddy.

I've always liked slip-trailing designs, but I really love the arrangement and composition of this tea bowl.

Thank you so much for this wonderful item.

この度はお買い求めいただきありがとうございました。
またの御利用を心よりお待ちしております。
