Handmade ceramic cup from Kyoto

A Versatile Cup for Tea, Sake, or Everyday Moments

Experience the Charm of Kyoto's Artisanal Pottery

Created by Takuro Nagata, a master potter with over 50 years of experience, from the renowned Nagata Studio in Kyoto's Kyotanba region.

This exquisite cup captures the essence of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware pottery, showcasing timeless craftsmanship and artistic expression.

Each piece is carefully shaped using a unique "press mold" technique, where clay is gently pressed into molds by hand. This method, more time-consuming than using a potter's wheel, gives the cup its distinctive handmade feel.

The slight irregularities and finger impressions create a delightful texture, adding to the authentic charm of this handmade pottery.

Elegant white porcelain cup from Kyoto

The carefully selected porcelain material has a translucent, refined quality, offering both elegance and durability.

Fired at high temperatures, the cup is sturdy and designed to last, making it a practical and beautiful addition to any home.

The delicate hand-painted design of Susuki grass is the work of Nagata’s wife, a former artisan in Kyoto's iconic Yuzen dyeing. Her skillful brushstrokes in soft indigo hues create a harmonious and understated beauty.

This piece is a true testament to the tradition of Kyo-ware, blending functionality with artistry. Perfect for pottery enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Owner's Comment

Originally designed as a soba noodle dipping cup, its compact and versatile size has made it a popular choice as a multi-purpose cup.

The simple Susuki grass design makes it ideal for enjoying water, tea, or even sake and shochu.

It also works beautifully as a small dish for pickles or condiments, making it an excellent gift for those who appreciate traditional Japanese ceramics.
