Endless Pursuit of Glaze Perfection

Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.

Building on the knowledge cultivated at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute, he meticulously verifies changes due to firing temperature, glaze composition, and flame exposure, pursuing his unique kiln transformation expressions.

Izumi's work is not merely dependent on chance; it is built upon years of accumulated data and experience.

Nevertheless, unexpected changes still occur within the kiln, ensuring that no two pieces ever have the same appearance.

Beautiful Colors Created by Fire

Izumi's Tenmoku and Celadon works display complex color changes created during firing.

The deep gradations created by the flowing glaze and the delicate kiln transformations resulting from the reaction of mineral components exhibit expressions akin to natural phenomena.

Utensils for Everyday Life

While Izumi's vessels possess high artistic quality, they are created with the importance of daily use in mind.

From his long experience crafting a wide range of vessels including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, meticulous attention is paid to the feel on the lips, ease of holding, and overall usability.

They possess a quiet presence while enhancing food and drink. These are vessels that allow you to enjoy the expression of the glaze and the changes in light with each use.

For a Special Gift

The works are delivered in a wooden box personally signed by the artist.

The scenery created by the kiln transformation is unique to each piece, with each possessing its own distinctive expression.

Yoshinori Izumi's works, born from his long-standing dedication to glazes, are also recommended as special gifts.

These are vessels with a strong presence that grow more cherished with each use.

Shop Owner's Comment

This is a teacup from Yoshinori Izumi's signature "Ryusei" (Meteor) series.

The blue and silver iridescence that appears during firing is beautiful, and its expression changes depending on how the light hits it and the viewing angle.

The flowing glaze pattern is unique to each piece, making it a work that fully showcases the charm of Tenmoku glaze.

It comes in a wooden box personally signed by the artist, making it an ideal gift.
