Endless Pursuit of Glaze

Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.

Based on the knowledge gained at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute, he has pursued unique kiln transformation expressions by meticulously examining changes caused by firing temperature, glaze composition, and the way the flame hits the piece.

Izumi's works are not simply dependent on chance; they are built upon years of accumulated data and experience.

Even so, unpredictable changes occur inside the kiln, and no two pieces ever turn out the same.

Beautiful Colors Created by Fire

Izumi's Tenmoku and celadon works exhibit complex color changes created during firing.

The deep gradations created by the flow of glaze and the delicate kiln transformations resulting from the reaction of mineral components show expressions as if they were natural phenomena.

Vessels for Everyday Life

While Izumi's vessels possess high artistic merit, they are also crafted with an emphasis on daily use.

Based on his long experience creating a wide range of vessels, including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, he meticulously considers the feel to the lips, ease of holding, and overall usability.

They possess a quiet presence while enhancing food and drink. These are vessels that allow you to enjoy the changing expressions of the glaze and light with each use.

For a Special Gift

The works are delivered in a wooden box personally signed by the artist.

The scenery created by kiln transformation is unique to each piece, with each possessing its own singular expression.

Izumi's works, born from years of dedication to glaze, are also highly recommended as special gifts.

These are impressive vessels that become more cherished with each use.
