Endless Pursuit of Glaze

Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.

Building on the knowledge he cultivated at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute, he has meticulously examined changes caused by firing temperature, glaze composition, and flame exposure, pursuing his own unique kiln-changing expressions.

Izumi's work is not merely reliant on chance; it is built upon data and experience accumulated over many years.

Even so, unpredictable changes occur in the kiln, ensuring no two pieces are ever the same.

Beautiful Colors Created by Fire

Izumi's Tenmoku and celadon works exhibit complex color changes created by firing.

The deep gradations created by the flowing glaze and the delicate kiln changes resulting from the reaction of mineral components show expressions as if they were natural phenomena.

Tableware for Everyday Life

While Izumi's vessels possess high artistic value, they are also crafted with the intention of being used in daily life.

Drawing from his many years of experience creating a wide range of vessels, including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, he meticulously considers the feel on the lips, ease of holding, and overall usability.

They possess a quiet presence while enhancing food and drink. These vessels allow you to enjoy the changing expressions of the glaze and the play of light with every use.

For Special Gifts

The works are delivered in a wooden box inscribed by the artist.

The scenery created by the kiln changes is unique to each piece, with each possessing a one-of-a-kind expression.

Izumi's works, born from his many years of dedication to glazes, are also recommended as special gifts.

These are impressive vessels that grow more cherished with each use.

Comment from the Owner

This sake cup features a striking vibrant cinnabar red.

The deep coloration is a result of the firing process, with its delicate expression changing depending on the angle and lighting.

Though small, it has a significant presence, making your sake experience truly special.

It comes in a wooden box inscribed by the artist, making it an excellent gift.
