Handmade Kyoto pottery tumbler with animal motif

Realistic, yet full of charm—
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.

Based in the wooded hills of Nantan, Kyoto, Japanese ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates handmade pottery inspired by the natural world around him.

His charming animal designs are realistic, yet warm and whimsical—crafted with a personal touch that brings joy to everyday life.

Each tumbler is carefully shaped and trimmed by hand for a comfortable feel, highlighting the soft texture of traditional Japanese ceramic ware.

The creamy white base, made with a kohiki glaze, enhances the rustic warmth unique to handmade pottery.

Craftsmanship You Can Feel

Rather than painted with a brush, the animal illustrations are carefully etched by hand into the kohiki surface—giving each line a sense of movement and individuality.

This carving technique lends a unique character to each cup, reflecting both traditional Kyoto ceramic artistry and the artist's personal warmth.

The son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in the world of ceramics since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he has become a seasoned craftsman in his own right.

His refined skill and youthful creativity blend beautifully in every piece, making each tumbler a work of art you’ll want to use every day.
