Realistic, yet somehow endearing.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.
Takanobu Sawada is a potter who has a studio in a rural village in Nantan City, Kyoto.
Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he creates vessels with realistic yet warm depictions of animals.
Each piece is carefully molded, and the form is carved with ease of use in mind when held.
The soft, milky white kohiki (slipware) clay enhances the gentle texture unique to pottery.

Vessels that convey the warmth of craftsmanship
The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but are expressed by scratching off the kohiki clay.
Each line has movement, resulting in a finish that conveys unique artistry and warmth.
Takanobu Sawada, whose father is a Kyoto ware/Kiyomizu ware potter, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has 20 years of experience.
At 30 years old, he is a craftsman with solid skills, having reached the level of a veteran.

Sawada, who combines a youthful sensibility with refined skills, creates original Kyoto-style vessels.
Please experience their charm in your daily life.

Comment from the Shop Owner
This is a rice bowl of just the right size for everyday dining.
It is made slightly deeper than a typical bowl, making it easy to hold and preventing rice from spilling even when generously served.
The soft white of the kohiki and the expressive animals depicted on it will soothe your heart with every use.
With its timeless and simple design, it can be used as an everyday vessel for a long time.
