Realistic, yet somehow endearing.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.

Takunobu Sawada is a potter who has a studio in a satoyama (rural landscape) in Nantan City, Kyoto.

Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he creates vessels depicting animals that are realistic yet warm.

Each piece is carefully formed, with a shape carved out for ease of use when held.

The soft, milky white slip-glazed (kohiki) earthenware body enhances the gentle texture unique to pottery.

Vessels that convey the warmth of handcrafted work

The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but are expressed by scraping away the slip-glazed (kohiki) body.

Each line has movement, resulting in a unique and warm finish.

Takunobu Sawada, whose father is a potter of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki ware, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has already been making pottery for 20 years.

At 30, he is a craftsman with solid skills, having reached the level of a veteran.

Sawada, who combines a youthful sensibility with refined techniques, creates original vessels unique to Kyoto.

We invite you to experience their charm in your daily life.

Comments from the Owner

This is a moderately sized rice bowl, perfect for everyday meals.

It is slightly deeper than a typical bowl, making it less likely for rice to spill even when generously served, and it has an easy-to-hold shape.

The soft white of the kohiki glaze and the expressive animals depicted on it bring a sense of peace each time it is used.

With its timeless, simple appearance, it can be used as an everyday vessel for many years.
