Realistic yet full of charm—
Take a moment to unwind with your favorite cup.
Deep in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates handmade pottery inspired by the beauty of nature and the animals that surround his studio.
While his style leans toward realism, each piece carries a soft, endearing warmth that makes it feel personal and approachable.
Each cup is carefully formed and trimmed to fit comfortably in your hand, reflecting thoughtful craftsmanship.
The creamy white kohiki glaze enhances the natural softness of the traditional Japanese ceramic body, giving it a soothing and organic texture.
Feel the warmth of handmade art
Rather than being painted, the animal motifs are hand-etched by carving into the kohiki surface—an expressive and tactile approach that brings life to every line.
This creates a sense of movement and personality that’s uniquely Sawada’s own, blending traditional Japanese techniques with a fresh artistic sensibility.
Born into a family of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potters, Sawada has been immersed in the world of Japanese ceramics since childhood and has already spent over 20 years honing his skills.
Now in his 30s, he is regarded as a seasoned craftsman known for his refined technique and originality.
With a unique blend of youthful creativity and deep-rooted expertise, Sawada’s work reflects the spirit of Kyoto through handmade, traditional Japanese pottery.
Add one of his pieces to your daily table and experience the charm of functional ceramic art from Japan.
