Realistic yet heartwarming—
Enjoy a peaceful moment with your favorite cup.
Nestled in the rural mountains of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates his unique works surrounded by rich natural scenery.
His pottery is known for depicting animals in a style that blends realism with a gentle, inviting warmth.
Each piece is carefully hand-shaped and thoughtfully trimmed to ensure it feels comfortable in the hand.
The soft, creamy-white kohiki base enhances the natural texture of the clay, giving each vessel a serene, handmade feel.
Craftsmanship you can feel
The animal designs aren’t painted—they’re hand-carved into the kohiki glaze using a sgraffito technique. This gives each line a sense of life and motion.
The result is a warm, expressive finish that speaks of both artistry and care.
Born into a family of Kyoto ceramicists, Sawada has been immersed in the world of pottery since childhood and now brings over two decades of experience to his work.
Though still in his 30s, he is already recognized as a skilled and mature artisan in his field.
Blending traditional techniques with fresh sensibility, Sawada crafts pieces that are uniquely his own and distinctly Kyoto.
We hope you’ll enjoy adding one of his creations to your everyday life.

Owner's Comment
This small cup also works wonderfully as a yunomi (Japanese tea cup).
Its cozy size fits naturally in your palm, paired with a gentle animal illustration that brings calm to your day.
A quietly charming companion for your everyday table.
