Tea Ceramic Artist: Kaifū Yagi

Born in 1950 in Yamashiro, Kyoto.

After completing his studies at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School, he apprenticed under the first-generation ceramic artist Josui Kato.

Specializing in traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware tea ceramics, he has received numerous awards at major ceramic art exhibitions.

In 2003, he was officially recognized as a Traditional Craftsman of Kiyomizu Ware.

He continues to create pottery at his studio in Yamashiro-Taga, Kyoto.

Shippo motifs and floral patterns are rendered in refined gold over a vivid red ground. The glossy red glaze beautifully highlights the deep green of matcha, while the gold detailing brings the overall design into elegant balance.
