“Puppy” by Nakamura Hōchū — *Kōrin Gafu*, Edo Period, 1802
Collection of the National Institute of Japanese Literature

A Timeless Masterpiece Reimagined — “Puppy” by Hōchū

Nakamura Hōchū, a renowned painter from the Edo period, was known for his humorous and gentle brushwork.

This charming puppy, drawn with a warm and relaxed touch, continues to win hearts centuries after it was first painted.

Now, it lives again in the form of a small, handmade guinomi cup—crafted by a Kyoto-based artisan and designed to fit right in your hand.

Soft Curves, Crafted by Hand

Each guinomi is individually handmade with a gently rounded form that invites you to roll it in your palm.

Its playful shape and traditional functionality make it a delightful sake cup for everyday use or special moments.

Enjoy the comfort of Kyoto pottery—made by hand, made to soothe.

Like a Puppy at Play

Watch as the cup gently wobbles on the table—just like a puppy tumbling around with joy.

This lighthearted expression of traditional Japanese ceramics brings a little smile to your day.

Whether shared with friends or used in quiet moments, it offers a subtle sense of calm and delight.
