Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite cup.

In a studio nestled in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates pottery inspired by the nature surrounding him.

His work features realistic yet heartwarming animals, carefully shaped and carved to feel comfortable and natural in your hands.

The soft, milky white kohiki glaze enhances the gentle texture unique to handmade ceramics.

Animal carving on kohiki pottery by Takanobu Sawada

Feel the warmth of handmade craftsmanship

The animals are not painted, but expressed by gently carving into the kohiki surface.

Each line holds movement, giving the piece its own expressive character and warmth.

Takanobu Sawada, whose father is a potter of Kyo and Kiyomizu ware, grew up surrounded by ceramics and has already built a 20-year career.

Now in his thirties, he is an established artist known for his refined skills and unique style.

With a blend of youthful creativity and traditional craftsmanship, Sawada brings a fresh perspective to Kyoto ceramics—pieces meant to enrich your everyday life.
