Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a peaceful moment with your favorite cup.
Ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio nestled in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto.
Surrounded by nature, he creates pieces featuring animals rendered with a warm, lifelike presence.
Each cup is carefully shaped by hand and trimmed with comfort and usability in mind.
The soft, milky-white kohiki surface enhances the natural warmth and texture unique to pottery.

Craftsmanship with warmth
Rather than using a brush, the animal designs are created by carving into the kohiki clay surface.
Each line conveys movement, lending the pieces a distinct character and gentle charm.
Sawada, the son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, has been surrounded by ceramics since childhood and now brings over 20 years of experience to his work.
In his 30s, he has already reached the level of a seasoned artisan with refined skill.

With both refined technique and a youthful perspective, Sawada creates pieces filled with the unique character of Kyoto. We invite you to enjoy his work in your everyday moments.
