Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite cup.
Ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio nestled in the satoyama of Nantan, Kyoto.
Surrounded by lush nature, he creates pottery featuring animals that are realistic yet radiate warmth.
Each piece is carefully shaped and trimmed with ease of use in mind.
The soft, milky-white kohiki base highlights the gentle character unique to handmade pottery.

Feel the warmth of handcraft
The animal designs are not painted with a brush, but carved into the kohiki surface.
Each line has life and rhythm, bringing out the work's distinctive charm and warmth.
With a father who is also a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been surrounded by ceramics since childhood and has over 20 years of experience.
Now in his 30s, he is an accomplished artisan with refined skill and artistic maturity.

Blending youthful creativity with honed craftsmanship, Sawada brings out a uniquely Kyoto sensibility in his pieces. Discover their charm in your everyday life.
