Realistic yet charming—
A comforting moment with your favorite cup.
In the tranquil countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates heartwarming pottery inspired by the natural world that surrounds his studio.
He brings to life realistic yet tender animal figures, blending detailed craftsmanship with a soft, approachable aesthetic.
Each cup is carefully hand-shaped and trimmed to fit naturally in your hand, ensuring both beauty and everyday usability.
The soft ivory tones of the kohiki glaze enhance the natural texture of the pottery, offering a gentle warmth unique to handmade ceramics.
Feel the warmth of handcrafted art
Instead of using a brush, Sawada carves each animal illustration directly into the kohiki surface, creating dynamic lines that bring the animals to life.
This carving method results in a unique finish filled with motion, emotion, and an unmistakable handmade touch.
Born into a family of Kyoto ceramic artists, Sawada has been immersed in the world of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware from an early age. Now in his 30s, he brings over 20 years of experience to his work.
With a blend of youthful creativity and expert technique, he continues to produce original pieces rooted in Kyoto's rich ceramic tradition.
Sawada’s work is a fusion of refined skill and artistic sensibility, offering pottery that’s both functional and emotionally resonant.
Let his handmade creations bring a touch of Kyoto to your everyday life.
