Realistic, yet tenderly charming—
Take a relaxing break with your favorite handmade cup.
In the scenic countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, Japanese ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates heartfelt pottery surrounded by nature’s beauty.
His work features animals that feel both realistic and warm, gently bringing life and comfort into your everyday routine.
Each mug is skillfully hand-shaped with a focus on comfort and function. The soft, creamy white clay—made using the traditional kohiki technique—gives it the inviting texture that only handmade ceramic can offer.
Feel the warmth of traditional craftsmanship
The animal illustrations are not painted but carefully carved into the kohiki surface, giving each piece movement, depth, and a distinctive charm.
As the son of a traditional Kyoto pottery artisan specializing in Kyo and Kiyomizu ware, Sawada has been immersed in the ceramic arts since childhood. Now in his thirties, he brings over two decades of experience to his handmade creations.
Blending youthful creativity with refined technique, Sawada crafts original pieces that embody the spirit of Kyoto pottery. His handmade ceramics offer both function and quiet joy in daily life.
Add a touch of tradition and whimsy to your everyday moments with this lovingly crafted piece from Japan.
