Hand-carved animal rice bowl by Kyoto ceramic artist

Realistic, yet full of warmth.
Enjoy a quiet moment with your favorite cup.

In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works in his studio surrounded by nature.

His pottery features charming animal designs—realistic in form, yet gently expressive and warm in feeling.

Each piece is shaped by hand and carefully refined for ease of use, ensuring it feels just right when held.

The soft milky-white *kohiki* glaze enhances the gentle texture that only handmade Japanese ceramic can offer.

A Bowl that Carries the Warmth of the Artist’s Hand

The animal motifs aren’t painted—they’re delicately carved into the *kohiki* surface using a scraping technique.

Each line is filled with movement, bringing out a sense of individuality and warmth in every piece.

The son of a Kyo and Kiyomizu-ware ceramic artist, Sawada has been surrounded by pottery since childhood and now brings over 20 years of experience to his work.

Though still in his 30s, his craftsmanship reflects the skill and maturity of a seasoned artist.
