Handmade animal-themed pottery by Takanobu Sawada

Realistic, yet irresistibly charming.
Take a break with your favorite cup.

In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates pottery inspired by the nature around him.

His work features animals that are both lifelike and heartwarming—capturing the quiet beauty of wildlife with a gentle touch.

Each piece is carefully hand-shaped, then trimmed to fit comfortably in your hand, ensuring ease of use in daily life.

The soft milky-white *kohiki* glaze enhances the natural texture of the clay, bringing out a warmth unique to handmade ceramics.

Crafted with warmth and care

Rather than using a brush, the animal motifs are carved into the *kohiki* surface, giving them depth and movement.

Each line conveys character and liveliness, making every piece feel unique and expressive.

Born into a family of Kyoto potters, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he is a seasoned artist despite being in his thirties.

He combines youthful sensitivity with refined technique to create pottery that embodies the spirit of Kyoto craftsmanship.
