Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite piece.
In the lush countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio surrounded by nature.
He creates pottery adorned with realistic yet charming animal designs, capturing warmth and personality in every piece.
Each item is carefully shaped by hand and trimmed to ensure comfortable use.
The soft, milky white *kohiki* glaze enhances the gentle texture unique to handmade ceramics.
Feel the Warmth of Handcrafted Work
Instead of painting with a brush, the animal designs are carved into the *kohiki* clay surface, revealing expressive and lively lines.
The result is a unique blend of artistry and warmth, with every line carrying its own personality.
As the son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood and has now honed his craft for over 20 years.
Though still in his thirties, his refined technique and artistic vision place him among seasoned artisans.
Combining youthful sensibility with skillful craftsmanship, Sawada's work reflects the originality of Kyoto’s pottery tradition. We hope you’ll enjoy the charm it brings to your everyday moments.
