Animal-themed pottery by Sawada

Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.

In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates pottery featuring animals that are both lifelike and full of charm.

Surrounded by the beauty of nature, he handcrafts each piece with care, shaping them to feel natural and comfortable in the hand.

The soft milky-white *kohiki* glaze brings out the warmth and gentle texture unique to traditional Japanese ceramics.

Craftsmanship You Can Feel

The animals aren't drawn with a brush—they're hand-carved by scraping away the *kohiki* surface.

Each line carries movement and life, resulting in a piece that’s rich in personality and warmth.

As the son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in the world of ceramics since childhood, and he now has over 20 years of experience.

In his 30s, he already shows the refined skills of a seasoned artisan.

Sawada's animal carving on pottery

Combining a youthful artistic sense with honed technical skill, Sawada's works are full of originality and the quiet elegance of Kyoto craftsmanship.

Bring a touch of his artistry into your daily life—and feel the joy it adds to your everyday moments.
