Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a relaxing moment with your favorite cup.
In the countryside of Nantan City, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates animal-themed pottery that’s both realistic and heartwarming.
Surrounded by nature, he crafts each piece by hand with meticulous care, shaping forms that feel comfortable to use.
The soft, milky-white *kohiki* glaze enhances the gentle texture that only earthenware can offer.

Craftsmanship That Radiates Warmth
Rather than painted with a brush, the animal illustrations are carved directly into the *kohiki* surface using a scraping technique.
Each line is full of movement, resulting in a finish that conveys both artistry and warmth.
The son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics from an early age and now has over 20 years of experience.
Though in his 30s, he already possesses the skill and poise of a seasoned artisan.

With a fresh artistic sense and refined technique, Sawada brings to life uniquely Kyoto-inspired creations.
We hope you’ll enjoy his work as a part of your daily moments.
