Handmade Kyoto ceramic cup with animal carving

Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.

In the forested countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates handmade pottery that blends realism with a soft, heartwarming touch.

Surrounded by the beauty of rural Japan, he sculpts vessels featuring animals that seem to come to life—each one filled with warmth and expression.

Every piece is carefully shaped by hand, with its form refined for ease of use and daily comfort.

The soft, milky white glaze is achieved using the traditional Japanese *kohiki* technique, highlighting the gentle, natural texture of ceramic pottery.

The Gentle Touch of Handmade Craft

Instead of using a brush, the animal designs are etched by hand, carving through the glaze to bring each figure to life.

The motion in every line gives these works a unique sense of character and warmth that sets them apart.

Sawada, the son of a traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, grew up immersed in ceramics and now brings over 20 years of experience to his craft.

Now in his 30s, he has already earned a reputation for his expert skill and refined techniques.

With youthful creativity and time-honored skill, Sawada creates handmade pottery that reflects Kyoto's rich tradition and his own original vision. Bring a piece of that artistry into your everyday life.
