A Matcha Bowl by Third-Generation Nakamura Akimune, Carrying on the Tradition of Kyo Ware
A matcha bowl by Kyoto potter Nakamura Akimune III. Born in Kyoto's Higashiyama district in 1947, he grew up in a family with a long history of pottery.
He studied pottery under his father, Nakamura Akimune II, and inherited the traditional overglaze painting techniques of Kyo ware. Certified as a Traditional Craftsman of Kyo Ware and Kiyomizu Ware in 1994, he has spent many years creating tea ceramics in Kyoto.

Delicate Overglaze Painting Depicting Classic Motifs
Drawing on the traditional decorative styles of Kyo ware exemplified by Nonomura Ninséi and Ogata Kenzan, he expresses seasonal flowers and plants as well as classic motifs in a rich array of overglaze colors.
The painting is characterized by delicate depictions created with careful brushwork and an emphasis on harmonious colors. It possesses a sense of calm amidst its splendor, conveying the elegant decorative beauty unique to Kyo ware.

Distinguished Tea Ceramics Reflecting the Beauty of the Four Seasons
The painting, which captures the changing seasons, evokes the appreciation of nature and aesthetic sensibilities long cherished in the Japanese tea ceremony.
The appearance created by classic motifs and masterful skill exudes the refined character of Kyo ware passed down through generations. This traditional Kyo ware matcha bowl adds seasonal charm and elegance to any tea gathering.

Shop Owner's Comment
This is Nakamura Akimune's "Ryūsui Unkin" matcha bowl, featuring cherry blossoms and autumn leaves painted across the inside and outside of the bowl.
“Unkin” likens spring cherry blossoms to clouds and autumn leaves to brocade, and is a traditional motif symbolizing Japan's four seasons. By boldly contrasting the vivid painting of cherry blossoms and autumn leaves with a flowing water pattern, it creates a vibrant, lively scene.
This bowl allows you to fully enjoy the decorative beauty of Kyo Ware and Kiyomizu Ware, with its meticulous painting covering the inside of the bowl without leaving any empty space and its striking contrast of vivid colors.
