A Mizusashi by Third-Generation Nakamura Akimune, Carrying on the Tradition of Kyo Ware
A matcha bowl by Kyoto potter Third-Generation Nakamura Akimune. Born in Higashiyama, Kyoto, in 1947, he grew up in a family with a long history of pottery.
He studied pottery under his father, Second-Generation Akimune, and inherited the traditional overglaze decoration techniques of Kyo ware. Certified as a Traditional Craftsperson of Kyo Ware and Kiyomizu Ware in 1994, he has spent many years creating tea ceramics in Kyoto.

Delicate Overglaze Decoration Depicting Classic Motifs
Drawing on the traditional decorative styles of Kyo ware exemplified by Nonomura Ninsho and Ogata Kenzan, he expresses seasonal flora and classic motifs in a rich array of overglaze colors.
The decoration is characterized by delicate depictions created with careful brushwork and an emphasis on harmonious colors. It possesses a sense of calm despite its splendor, conveying the elegant decorative beauty unique to Kyo ware.

Distinguished Tea Ceramics Reflecting the Beauty of the Four Seasons
The decoration, which reflects the changing seasons, evokes the appreciation of nature and aesthetic sensibilities long cherished in the tea ceremony.
The appearance created by classic motifs and masterful skill exudes the distinctive character of Kyo ware passed down through generations. This traditional Kyo ware mizusashi adds seasonal charm and elegance to any tea gathering.

Shop Owner's Comment
This is a mizusashi by Nakamura Akimune featuring clouds painted in vivid colors such as blue, green, red, and purple.
The clouds, painted as if enveloping the entire vessel, create a fantastical and deeply layered landscape through multiple overlapping gradients of brilliant colors. The flowing curves of the clouds harmonize with the intricately shifting colors, unfolding a splendid world reminiscent of Japanese painting.
This mizusashi is full of artistry and presence, expressing the traditional cloud motif with a bold sense of color.
