A Matcha Bowl by Akimune Nakamura, Third-Generation Artisan of Kyo Ware
A matcha bowl by Kyoto ceramic artist Akimune Nakamura. Born in Kyoto's Higashiyama district in 1947, he grew up in a family with generations of ceramic-making tradition.
He studied ceramics under his father, the second-generation Akimune, and inherited the traditional overglaze painting techniques of Kyo ware. Certified as a Traditional Craftsperson of Kyo Ware and Kiyomizu Ware in 1994, he has spent many years creating tea ceramics in Kyoto.

Delicate Overglaze Painting of Classic Motifs
Drawing on the traditional decorative styles of Kyo ware, exemplified by Nonomura Ninséi and Ogata Kenzan, he expresses seasonal flowers and plants as well as classic motifs in a rich array of overglaze colors.
The bowl is characterized by delicate depictions created with careful brushwork and overglaze painting that emphasizes harmony of color. While elegant, it also possesses a calm presence, conveying the graceful decorative beauty unique to Kyo ware.

Distinguished Tea Ceramics Reflecting the Beauty of the Four Seasons
The overglaze painting, which captures the changing seasons, evokes the appreciation of nature and aesthetic sensibilities long cherished in the tea ceremony.
The appearance created by classic motifs and masterful skill exudes the refined character of Kyo ware passed down through generations. This traditional Kyo ware matcha bowl adds seasonal charm and elegance to any tea gathering.

Shop Owner's Comment
This is a matcha bowl by Akimune Nakamura, featuring the three sacred fruits and a karakusa vine motif on a subdued orange ceramic body.
The exterior is finished in a warm, matte orange, while the interior is coated in a lustrous black glaze, creating a striking contrast in texture and color. The three sacred fruits and flowing karakusa vines are painted over this, adding elegance to the classic design.
Combining the three sacred fruits, which symbolize good fortune, with the karakusa vine motif, representing prosperity and longevity, this bowl harmonizes original color choices with traditional beauty.
