Tea Ceramic Artist: Kaifū Yagi

Born in 1950 in Yamashiro, Kyoto.

After completing his studies at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School, he apprenticed under the first-generation ceramic artist Josui Kato.

Specializing in traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware tea ceramics, he has received numerous awards at major ceramic art exhibitions.

In 2003, he was officially recognized as a Traditional Craftsman of Kiyomizu Ware.

He continues to create pottery at his studio in Yamashiro-Taga, Kyoto.

Owner’s Comment

Rich ash glaze flows generously over the surface, while gold and white cherry blossoms are painted densely across the bowl. The contrast between the bold texture of the black clay body, the movement of the glaze, and the vibrant hand-painted decoration is especially striking. A matcha bowl that fully expresses the tactile depth of ceramic art and the refined decorative beauty of Kyoto tradition.
