Yoshinori Mitani, a skilled artisan based in Fushimi, Kyoto, operates Furyu Kiln.

After years of training at a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware kiln specializing in tea ceremony utensils, Mitani became an independent artist, perfecting the art of painting cats in the traditional blue-and-white sometsuke technique.

 

 

The delicate brushwork brings the charming cats to life, adorned with classic Japanese patterns that enhance the cup’s distinctive design.

Mitani’s work beautifully embodies the essence of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware—blending tradition with modern artistic sensibility.

 

The sometsuke painting technique ensures durability, making this guinomi both microwave and dishwasher safe.
