A Vessel That Adds a Subtle Touch of Elegance to Everyday Life

The “Shisaika-mon” series is created by Touraku Kiln, a Kyoto-based workshop, and is designed to bring a refined sense of elegance into everyday life.
The soft purple tones, combined with the gently restrained shimmer of gold decoration, add a quiet sense of specialness to ordinary moments.

Easy to incorporate into daily life, yet somehow it helps bring a sense of calm and order to your mood.

These vessels have a presence that makes you feel just a little more composed each time you use them.

Layers of Purple, White, and Gold Create a Sense of Depth

Shisaika-mon pieces are made by layering white slip, deep purple, and gold decoration over a soft purple base, creating rich depth in both color and texture.

Rather than relying on a single tone, the overlapping layers produce a gentle yet expressive and nuanced surface.

Traditional Motifs Interpreted with a Contemporary Sensibility

The vessels are adorned with delicate patterns created using the traditional Mishima technique.

In the Shisaika-mon series, this time-honored decorative method is reinterpreted to suit modern tastes and lifestyles.

Elegant, yet never overly assertive.

The design achieves a balance between the dignity of Japanese tableware and everyday practicality.

Carefully Crafted Decoration by Hand

All decoration in the Shisaika-mon series is applied entirely by hand by skilled artisans.

From the patterns and layered colors to the subtle balance of gold accents, each step is carefully checked and finished with great attention to detail.

While embracing the slight variations that come from handwork, the series maintains a consistent sense of refinement.

This steady accumulation of craftsmanship supports the calm elegance of the series.

Owner’s Comment

This bowl is unique to Touraku Kiln, created by carefully layering thin clay coils one by one to form an openwork-like texture.

The labor-intensive technique results in a light, airy silhouette with a beautiful sense of depth and dimension.

It pairs beautifully not only with Japanese dishes, but also with desserts and Western-style cuisine, adding a gentle elegance to the table.

The impression changes depending on what you serve, making it a truly enjoyable piece to use.
