Artist Profile

Yoshiaki Yamaoka (Zensho)

  • Born 1942 in Mie Prefecture, Japan
  • Graduated from Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Vocational Training School in 1959; studied under the first-generation master Zenpō
  • Established his independent career in 1969 under the name "Zensho"
  • Multiple awardee at prestigious exhibitions such as the Tanko Biennale and Kyoto Overglaze Ceramic Exhibitions
  • Certified Traditional Craftsman since 2006
  • Featured on NHK’s “The Art of Beauty” (Kyo-yaki edition)
  • Received numerous honors including the Chairman’s Award at the Kyoto Ceramic Cooperative Federation
