About the Artist
Noboru Yamaoka
Born in Mie Prefecture in 1942.
Graduated from Kyoto Ceramic Training School in 1959 and studied for ten years under Zenjiro Ueyama.
In 1969, established Yamaoka Togakaen studio and received the artist name “Shosho” from his master.
Exhibited at the International Garden and Greenery Exposition (Expo ’90) in Osaka.
Selected three times for the Kyo-ware & Kiyomizu-ware Exhibition.
Selected for the 1992 Tanko Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition.
Received the Kyoto Mayor’s Award at the Kyoto Overglaze Ceramic Exhibition in 1998.
Awarded the Governor’s Prize three times, with ten additional selections, and received multiple prizes at the Kyoto Prefectural Craft Design Competition.
