Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite cup.

In the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates warm and expressive pottery inspired by the nature that surrounds his studio.

His works feature lifelike animals that exude charm, each hand-formed with care and designed for ease of use in daily life.

The soft, milky-white kohiki base highlights the gentle texture unique to handmade Japanese pottery.

The charm of hand-carved ceramic art

Instead of painting with a brush, the animal motifs are etched directly into the kohiki surface using a carving technique.

Each line is filled with movement, bringing warmth and individuality to every piece.

Takanobu Sawada, the son of a Kyo and Kiyomizu ware potter, has been involved in ceramics from a young age. Now with over 20 years of experience, he is considered a master craftsman in his field.

Combining refined skill with a youthful perspective, he creates original pieces that reflect the spirit of Kyoto’s ceramic tradition.

Enjoy the unique atmosphere that his work brings to your everyday life—a beautiful fusion of tradition and personality.
