Kyo-ware & Kiyomizu-ware small plate with animal design by Takanobu Sawada

Realistic Yet Playful - Add Your Favorite Small Plate to Your Collection

In the serene countryside of Kyoto, Takanobu Sawada creates his pottery in a studio located in Nantan City, a region that preserves Japan's rural landscapes.

Sawada's series of pottery features realistic yet heartwarming depictions of animals, adding a touch of charm to every piece.

Each plate is carefully handcrafted and shaped for everyday use. The milky-white glaze, characteristic of traditional ceramics, enhances its rustic texture.

The animal designs are not painted but carved into the glaze, revealing the clay underneath. This unique technique creates a warm and distinctive character.

Born into a family of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware artisans, Sawada developed a passion for ceramics from a young age. Now in his 30s and with over 20 years of experience, he is recognized as a skilled craftsman.

Blending youthful creativity with expert craftsmanship, Sawada's works bring originality and artistry to Kyoto's ceramic traditions. Add one of his unique small plates to your collection today.
