Realistic, yet full of gentle charm.
Slow down and savor a moment with your favorite handmade cup.

In a quiet rural corner of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates his work surrounded by the beauty of nature.

His pottery features animals that are at once lifelike and heartwarming, capturing a sense of warmth inspired by the natural world around him.

Each mug is thoughtfully formed by hand and trimmed to provide comfort and functionality, fitting perfectly in your daily life.

The soft, creamy kohiki glaze highlights the kind, tactile warmth that only traditional Japanese pottery can deliver.

Detail of carved animal design on kohiki pottery

Feel the warmth of handmade craftsmanship

The animals are not painted on—they’re hand-carved into the kohiki clay, adding character, movement, and a tactile quality that brings each illustration to life.

Every line carries energy and care, resulting in a ceramic piece that’s both artistic and deeply personal.

Born into a family of Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware artists, Sawada grew up with pottery in his hands. Now with over 20 years of experience, his skills are matched by his creative vision.

In his 30s, he continues to expand the boundaries of Kyoto’s traditional ceramic artistry with fresh perspectives and original designs.

His work blends time-honored craftsmanship with youthful expression—resulting in one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces that embody the essence of Kyoto.

Discover the quiet joy of incorporating handmade Japanese pottery into your everyday rituals.
