Realistic, yet gently charming.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite handmade cup.

In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates his pottery surrounded by lush greenery.

His handmade pieces feature animals that are both realistic and full of warmth—capturing a quiet charm that reflects the natural world around him.

Each mug is carefully shaped by hand and carved to fit comfortably in your hand, with thoughtful balance and function.

The soft, milky white kohiki clay enhances the natural feel of traditional Japanese ceramics, offering a calm and gentle texture.

Handcrafted warmth you can feel

The animal designs are carved—not painted—into the kohiki clay, giving the lines motion and presence that feel alive.

Each stroke brings a sense of personality, making every piece a one-of-a-kind blend of craftsmanship and emotion.

Sawada grew up in a family of Kyoto ceramic artists—his father a potter of traditional Kyo and Kiyomizu ware—and has over 20 years of experience.

Now in his 30s, he’s already regarded as a skilled artisan whose works fuse Kyoto tradition with creative expression.

With a modern sensibility and refined skill, Sawada crafts pottery that reflects the depth and artistry of traditional Kyoto ceramics.

Add a piece of handmade Japan to your everyday table, and enjoy the quiet presence it brings.
