Realistic yet somehow endearing.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.
Takanobu Sawada is a potter who has his studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.
Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he creates pottery adorned with realistic yet warm-hearted depictions of animals.
Each piece is carefully formed, and its shape is shaved down to ensure ease of use when held.
The soft, milky white slipware base enhances the gentle texture unique to ceramics.

Pottery that evokes the warmth of craftsmanship
The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but rather created by scraping away the slipware base.
Each line possesses movement, resulting in a unique and warm artistic quality.
Takanobu Sawada, whose father is a potter of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki ware, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has already accumulated 20 years of experience in pottery making.
At just 30 years old, he is a craftsman with established skills, having reached the level of a veteran.

Mr. Sawada, who combines a youthful sensibility with refined techniques, creates unique pottery full of Kyoto's originality.
We invite you to experience its charm in your daily life.
