Realistic yet full of charm.
Take a quiet break with your favorite cup.
In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates pottery that blends realism with warmth, featuring hand-carved animals full of life and character.
Working in harmony with the surrounding nature, he shapes each piece with care, carving smooth and balanced forms designed to feel good in the hand.
The soft, milky-white clay body, created using the traditional Japanese *kohiki* technique, brings out the gentle texture unique to handmade ceramics.

Pottery That Carries the Warmth of Human Hands
Rather than using a brush, Sawada carves directly into the *kohiki* surface, creating expressive illustrations of animals with a unique, spontaneous energy.
Each line carries motion, personality, and an unmistakable handmade quality that adds warmth to your table.
The son of a traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in Kyoto’s ceramic heritage since childhood. Now with over 20 years of experience, he brings a deep sense of skill and originality to every creation.
Blending tradition with a youthful spirit, his handmade pottery showcases the charm of Kyoto craftsmanship for today’s lifestyle.

Let these expressive pieces become part of your daily rituals—enriching each moment with handmade artistry from Kyoto, Japan.

Owner's Comment
This plate is made using the traditional *tatara* method, which involves shaping flat slabs of clay by hand—a time-consuming process that results in a clean, modern shape.
It’s a wonderfully versatile size—perfect for serving desserts, pastries, small meals, or salads. You’ll find it endlessly useful in your kitchen.
The lively animal carvings are full of personality and joy—pieces that bring a smile to the table.
