Kenji Matsuoka of Heian Rakudo operates his quiet pottery studio in Yamashina, Kyoto.

Born into a lineage of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware artisans, he naturally took to working with clay, crafting tableware that seamlessly blends into daily life.

Heian Rakudo’s ceramics are designed for everyday use, offering a sense of warmth and simplicity.

In his serene workshop, Matsuoka devotes himself to his craft, focusing on refined forms and elegant glazes.

While he works independently, his wife provides invaluable support, making this a family-driven studio.
