Kenji Matsuoka of Heian Rakudo quietly operates his pottery studio in Yamashina, Kyoto.

Born into a long line of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware artisans, he naturally embraced working with clay, crafting vessels that seamlessly integrate into everyday life.

Heian Rakudo’s pottery is designed to be effortlessly used—warm, inviting, and perfectly suited for daily moments.

Each piece carries a quiet charm, bringing a gentle elegance to any setting.

In his peaceful workshop, Matsuoka dedicates himself fully to his craft, shaping each piece with care and intention.

 

Though he single-handedly creates each piece, his wife provides invaluable support, making their pottery studio a true labor of love.
