Artist Profile
Noboru Yamaoka
- Born in Mie Prefecture, 1942
- Graduated from Kyoto Ceramic Training School, 1959
- Trained for 10 years under master Zenjiro Ueyama
- Established independent studio “Yamaoka Togaken,” 1969
- Received the artist name “Shō” (Noboru) from his teacher
- Exhibited at the 1990 International Garden and Greenery Exposition, Osaka
- Selected three times for the Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware Exhibition
- Selected for the 1992 Tanko Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition
- Awarded the Kyoto Mayor’s Prize at the Kyoto Iroe Ceramic Exhibition, 1998
- Governor’s Prize at the Overglaze Enamel Ceramic Exhibition (three times)
- Numerous awards and selections in ceramic design competitions
