Handmade Kyoto Pottery Glass

From a Small Kiln in Kyoto

Located near Kanshuji Temple in Kyoto, Dainichi Kiln is a small family-run pottery studio carrying on the tradition of Kiyomizu-yaki (Kyoto ware).

Father Shigeo Takemura and his son Yotaro create pottery that honors Japanese tradition while blending beautifully into modern daily life.

Using natural materials for their original glazes and shaping each piece by hand, every item is carefully made one by one in their quiet mountain workshop.

Blue glaze Kyoto pottery

A Blue Gradient Like Sky and Sea

The signature Hekiyu series is known for its breathtaking blue glaze — as if the sky and sea have been captured in ceramic.

Based on a vivid turquoise, the glaze flows naturally from pale aqua to deep indigo. Each handmade piece is completely unique, with subtle differences in color and texture.

The surface changes with the light and angle, revealing different expressions — a hallmark of handmade Kyoto pottery.
