Handmade Kyoto Pottery

From a Small Kiln in Kyoto

Near Kanshuji Temple in Kyoto lies Dainichi Kiln, a family-run pottery studio where tradition meets modern life.

Father Shigeo Takemura and his son Yotaro create pottery that reflects the heritage of Kiyomizu-yaki while blending seamlessly into today’s lifestyle.

Natural materials, hand-applied glazes, and careful craftsmanship bring each piece to life. Every work is handmade in their quiet mountain workshop, one by one.

Blue glaze pottery jug

A Blue Gradient Like Sky and Sea

The signature Hekiyu series captures the essence of sky and ocean, with its serene blue tones.

From soft aqua to deep indigo, the turquoise-based glaze flows naturally, creating organic patterns unique to each piece. No two items are ever the same, highlighting the artistry of Japanese handmade ceramic tradition.

Depending on the light and angle, the surface reveals different moods, making it a truly living work of art.

Japanese pottery pitcher

Elevate Everyday Dining

More than just a functional vessel, this handmade Kyoto pottery adds a refined touch to any table. Its transparency and subtle sheen highlight both Japanese and Western cuisine alike.

With every use, it transforms daily meals into special moments. A thoughtful piece for yourself or as a unique gift steeped in traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Owner’s Comment

This pouring vessel is a piece of art in itself, with its striking contrast between the glossy handle and flowing blue glaze.

Durable and versatile, it is perfect for serving sake — chilled or warm — as well as herbal teas or loose-leaf infusions.

A beautiful balance of tradition and functionality, crafted in Kyoto with care.
