Handmade Kyoto Ceramic Furidashi

A Small Kiln Bringing Handcrafted Vessels to Life

Near Kanshuji Temple in Kyoto, you will find Dainichi Kiln, a family-run pottery studio.

Created by Yotaro Takemura together with his father Shigeo, their work carries on the Kiyomizu-yaki tradition while fitting seamlessly into modern living.

Each piece is carefully handmade in their quiet mountain workshop, using natural glazes and traditional craftsmanship — the true spirit of Kyoto pottery.

Japanese Furidashi Tea Caddy

A Blue Gradient Like Sky and Ocean

The signature Hekiyu (blue glaze) series is striking for its pure, flowing shades of blue, as if capturing the sky and sea.

From pale turquoise to deep indigo, the glaze blends and flows naturally, with each handmade piece offering a one-of-a-kind expression. The look changes beautifully with light and angle.

The Hekiyu series complements not only Japanese cuisine but also Western dishes, enhancing the dining table with its calm elegance.

Each use brings a small moment of joy and relaxation. Perfect for daily enjoyment, or as a meaningful gift.

Owner’s Comment

The Furidashi is a traditional Japanese ceramic container originally used in tea ceremonies to hold konpeito, a colorful sugar candy.

Its palm-sized shape and charming round silhouette make it highly collectible and beloved by tea enthusiasts.

Beyond tea, it can also be used creatively — remove the lid and enjoy it as a small vase for flowers. A delightful fusion of tradition and playful design.
