The Miracle of Fire: "Tenmoku"
A Rare Masterpiece Dedicated to Kyo-ware
This handcrafted piece is the work of the late Seichi Oketani (Second Generation), a Kyoto-based ceramic artist.
Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to perfecting the art of Tenmoku tea bowls, elevating them to the realm of fine tea ceremony utensils.
Born in Kyoto in 1935, Oketani inherited his father's kiln and mastered the techniques of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware. He later took on the name Seichi, the second generation.
Despite the challenges of changing times, he remained steadfast in his craft, creating exquisite works that continue to be cherished by collectors today.

Tenmoku is an ancient ceramic technique originating from China, where mineral-rich glazes transform into intricate patterns during firing.
It requires precise control of oxygen levels and temperature, making it one of the most challenging techniques in pottery.
Additionally, the unpredictable conditions inside the kiln ensure that no two pieces are ever identical—each one is a truly unique work of art.
