Artist Profile: Zensho Yamaoka

• Born 1942 in Mie Prefecture
• Graduated 1959 from Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School under Master Yamaoka
• 1969 began exhibiting at the Tankō Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Competition
• Three-time Governor’s Award winner, Kyoto Overglaze Ceramic Exhibition
• Two-time awardee, Kyoto Prefecture Design Competition (1990–2000)
• Five-time recipient, Kyoyaki & Kiyomizu Exhibition (2000–2010)
• Selected for the National Traditional Crafts Masters Conference in 2001
• Featured on NHK’s “Bi no Tsubo: Kyo-Yaki Edition” in 2012
• Chairman’s Award winner, Uji Tourism Association, Kyoyaki & Kiyomizu Exhibition 2010
