From a Small Kiln in Kyoto
Dainichi Kiln, located near Kansyuji Temple in Kyoto, is a family-run pottery studio.
Father Shigeo Takemura and his son Yotaro create works that honor the centuries-old tradition of Kiyomizu-ware while blending effortlessly into modern life.
Each piece is carefully handmade in their quiet mountain studio, using natural glazes and traditional Japanese ceramic techniques.

A Blue Glaze Inspired by Sky and Sea
The kiln’s signature Hekiyu (blue glaze) series reflects the calm beauty of sky and sea.
From turquoise to pale aqua and deep indigo, the flowing glaze forms a natural gradient unique to each mug.
Every piece is handmade, with variations in the glaze ensuring no two are ever alike.
The colors shift beautifully depending on light and angle, creating a sense of living, traditional Japanese artistry.

A Touch of Elegance for the Table
The Hekiyu glaze complements not only Japanese dishes but also Western cuisine, making it versatile for any dining setting.
The glaze’s natural depth and calm tones gently highlight food and drink, turning everyday dining into a more refined experience.
Practical for daily use, yet elegant enough as a gift, this handmade Kyoto pottery piece brings together tradition and modern living.
