Kyoto Jiucasca ceramic plate

Botanical Designs Rooted in Traditional Kyo-ware

Jiucasca is a small handmade pottery studio nestled in a quiet residential area of northern Kyoto.

Founded by young ceramic artist Asami Maeda, the studio’s name expresses her vision—creating ceramic pieces that gently nourish everyday life like a “soft drizzle.”

Inspired by the natural beauty of Kyoto, including the breeze from nearby Mount Hiei, Maeda’s works feature delicate botanical motifs and reflect the elegance of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Blending Refined Technique with Artistic Depth

Maeda’s journey to pottery began after studying painting and philosophy, which continues to inform her unique artistic expression.

While embracing the traditional methods of Kyo-ware pottery, she freely explores design with a soft, modern touch—bringing a refreshing sensibility to the world of Kyoto ceramics.

Quiet Beauty for Everyday Dining

“I cherish the connection between the maker and the user.” Guided by this philosophy, Maeda creates pieces that are not only beautiful but also thoughtfully designed for daily use.

With soft contours and calming colors, her pottery harmonizes naturally with any table setting—bringing a sense of peace to each meal.

Owner's Comment

This small plate features a soft, antique-like color palette with a delicate floral motif.
It’s the perfect size for a sweet treat like chocolate or a canelé, making it ideal for serving alongside coffee or tea.
Just placing it beside your drink adds a touch of elegance to the moment.
It also works beautifully as a dish for salt, soy sauce, or other condiments on the table.
