Hand-painted sake cup by Wakaba Mitani

A Luxurious Sake Cup Filled with Masterful Technique

Wakaba Mitani, a talented young artist based in Fushimi, Kyoto, creates extraordinary hand-painted works that showcase the expressive depth of traditional Kyoto pottery.

Her painting style carries an almost overwhelming intensity. She pours every bit of her technique—and countless hours of work—into decorating a single handmade ceramic cup.

Hand-painted floral design

This small piece, fitting gently in your hand, embodies the grace and technical mastery of traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware from Japan.

The floral motifs, densely painted in swirling patterns, create a dreamlike world reminiscent of a hidden paradise.

It is a breathtaking expression of hand-painting that leaves a strong impression on anyone who sees it.

Detailed exterior painting

Every surface—inside and out—is fully hand-painted. The exterior features a rich purple background, adorned with swirling flowers encircling the foot of the cup.

Gold accents applied in delicate pointillism add a shimmering, dimensional effect to the traditional ceramic design.

Gold swirl pattern on the foot

Even the underside of the foot is carefully decorated with golden swirl patterns—a classic “Kinrande” style from traditional Japanese ceramics.

The dedication behind the phrase “paint every surface possible” is truly evident in this remarkable piece.
